Our name and logo are intentional. The great blue heron—graceful, strong, and seemingly effortless in flight—reminds us of the quiet power of nature. Watching a heron take off and fly through the air can feel almost spiritual, the same way fresh bread or thoughtfully made food connects us to something good, simple, and true. The heron is also a bellwether of environmental health, reflecting the condition of our waterways and ecosystems.
Coastal Queen is committed to improving those ecosystems by supporting regional grain agriculture, including grains grown as cover crops that protect soil, reduce runoff, and keep fertilizers out of watersheds. We also use hydro-electric power to run our mill and deliver in an electric van.
And finally, Queen is no accident. It’s a nod to the power of feminine leadership and the belief that food systems are strongest when they make room for care, creativity, and everyone at the table.
